Law on Noise Pollution Prevention and Control (2021)

The Law on Noise Pollution Prevention and Control was promulgated on 24 Dec. 2021, and entered into force on 5 June 2022.

The Law consists of 90 articles, aiming to prevent and control noise pollution and improve living environments.

The key points are as follows.

1. What is “noise”?

The “noise” refers to the sound that adversely affects the living environments in surrounding areas. “Noise pollution” occurs when such noise exceeds a prescribed standard and causes harm to the lives of people (Art. 2).

2. Can I play music out loud when dancing in a park?

Yes. But the volume should be set within a reasonable level (Art. 65).

3. What can I do if the surrounding noise affects my life and work?

You can check the hotlines on the websites of the ecology and environment departments to report a noise complaint (Art. 31).
