How Do Adoptions Work?

Step 1: Both the adopter and the person having placed out the child for the adoption voluntarily agree to adopt the child.

Step 2: Where the adoption involves a minor aged eight or more, the consent of the adoptee shall be obtained.

Step 3: The parties involved in the adoption shall go through the formalities for registering the establishment of the adoption at the adoption registration authority in person.

Step 4: Where the adoption registration authority considers that the parties concerned meet the requirements prescribed in the Adoption Law, it shall handle the adoption registration and issue the adoption registration certificate to the parties concerned.

Step 5: The adoptive relationship shall be established as of the date of registration.

Step 6: As of the date of establishment of the adoption, the rights and obligations in the relationship between adoptive parents and adopted children shall be the same as those of their biological parents and children.
