SPC Releases Report on Family Cases (2013-2022)

On 19 Oct. 2022, China’s Supreme People’s Court (SPC) released a report on family trials in courts at all levels nationwide from 2013 to 2022.

According to the report, from 2013 to 2021, the courts at all levels nationwide had concluded 15.69 million cases of marriage, family and succession disputes of the first instance, representing 15% of all civil cases of the first instance.

The number of family cases increased from 1.65 million in 2013 to 1.9 million in 2021, an increase of 15%.

The SPC stated that the concept of Chinese courts in family trials had evolved from the traditional focus on protecting the identity and property interests to fully considering the personality, safety, and emotional interests of family members.
