On 10 Nov. 2020, the State Administration of Market Supervision (SAMR) of China issued the proposed "Guidelines for Anti-monopoly in the Field of Platform Economy” (Draft for Public Comments) (關(guān)于平臺(tái)經(jīng)濟(jì)領(lǐng)域的反壟斷指南(征求意見(jiàn)稿)). The guidelines aim to prevent and stop the monopoly of Internet platforms.
China’s Internet giants, such as Alibaba, Tencent and Meituan, are targeted by the Guidelines.
The Guidelines stipulates that: (1) Anti-monopoly Law applies to the platforms of Internet giants, and anti-monopoly regulators will regulate Internet giants. (2) Anti-monopoly regulation aims to protect the rights of operators and consumers on the platforms.
The SAMR is soliciting public opinions on the Guidelines Draft, after that, it will issue an official version.
