On 30 Oct. 2022, the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress (“NPC”), the legislature of the People’s Republic of China (“PRC”), decided to ratify the “Convention on the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Relating to International Civil Aviation” (制止與國際民用航空有關(guān)的非法行為的公約) (the “Beijing Convention”), which was signed by the representatives of the PRC in Beijing on 10 Sep. 2010.
It also declared that:
- The PRC shall not be bound by the provisions of Article 20, paragraph 1, of the Beijing Convention.
- The Beijing Convention shall not apply to the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Macao Special Administrative Region for the time being, until further notice by the PRC government.
